WHAT
IS RFID?
RFID (Radio
Frequency Identification) is a
generic term for technologies that use radio
waves to automatically identify distant
objects. In its simplest form, an RFID tag
is a microchip that is attached to a minuscule
antenna. Data stored on the chip is transmitted
wirelessly through the antenna to a scanning
device that operates on the same frequency
as the RFID tag. The scanning device converts
the radio waves reflected back from the
tag into digital information that can then
be passed on to the computer network.
