ACADEMIA RFID LAUNCHES NEW RFID STANDARDS-SPECIFIC TRAINING
EPC Standards Expert Dr. Kenneth R. Traub joins the Academic Team of Montreal’s Academia RFID Centre of Excellence
August 31st,
2009 – Boston, Massachussets, USA / Montreal, QC, Canada
As early UHF RFID initiatives
became pilot projects and then eventually
developed into deployments, RFID project
stakeholders were confronted with more than
environmental restrictions and installation
headaches: they faced the daunting task
of clearly identifying and mapping when
and where all that transactional data would
go and what would they do with it. Luckily
EPCglobal Standards were developed to facilitate
the transfer and flow of information through
the supply chain and now two new training
courses are being offered to better understand
the use and benefits of these standards.
Developed and instructed
by Boston, Massachusetts-based Dr. Kenneth
R. Traub, EPCglobal Data Capture Software
Standards and EPC Information Services (EPCIS)
for RFID Visibility Data are two of the
latest online courses offered by the industry-leading
RFID Centre of Excellence, Academia RFID.
“EPCglobal has ratified
a suite of 11 standards for the identification,
capture, and exchange of visibility data
using RFID and the Electronic Product Code.
These courses give an in-depth tutorial
on the standards used to capture RFID data
and bring it into business applications,”
said Dr. Traub, describing the courses.
“A working knowledge of these standards
is indispensable for anybody who is planning
to build RFID software systems or to deploy
the many commercial products that implement
the standards.”
“The EPC Information Services
(EPCIS) standard provides the standard way
to represent what, when, where, and why
visibility information that applications
need to make use of RFID data. It is also
the way that trading partners share information
for total supply chain visibility,” said
Anthony Palermo, Director of Academia RFID
Centre of Excellence. “Having Dr. Traub
join our team has enabled us to offer more
in-depth standards-specific training to
better educate the industry and continue
to position our Centre as a leading academic
authority in RFID education and consulting.”
